Social media is changing how people communicate and its constantly reinventing itself. If you haven’t heard of the new social network innovation sweeping the nation, you need to jump on the social media band wagon and experience “Woof!” Enjoy. ~P

How Not to Wreck Your Online Reputation

The perfect way to shatter a first impression is having a potential employer come across photos from your frat days or pictures of you in your skivvies. “[About a year ago] the wife of Sir John Sawers, the new head of British spy agency MI6, caused a stir when she posted personal family information to Facebook, including an unflattering photo of the middle-aged bureaucrat wearing nothing but Speedo swim trunks while on vacation at the beach. It’s a silly, tabloid story—but it also teaches a serious lesson about social media security.”(Informationweek.com) |  Link to BBC story

To make sure that you don’t make the same mistake, I thought I’d share a few quick tips about managing your reputation online. (more…)

The Death of MySpace

I stumbled upon this today by reading a tweet from @CandacePotter. It’s sad but true: MySpace is way past its prime. In fact, I deleted my account about a two months ago (and I’m still getting spammed, grr). It makes me wonder if other social networks are just fads. Facebook has done a great job of staying current, but who knows what the next “new thing” will be? Could it be a Facebook killer? Anyway, have a laugh below, and if for any reason you still have a MySpace account, you should get rid of it before it starts it starts smelling up the rest of your social media fridge.

5 Rules for Creating Great Presentations

My brother Nick and I are working on a presentation called Catholic 2.0: Using Technology to stay Connected with Christ. The presentation will be about incorporating new media into your faith life. We plan on presenting it at for the Catholic Young Adults in Tulsa this March. (I’ll post the presentation when it’s done)

While working on this presentation I’ve run across an amazing book called Slideology. It’s written by Nancy Duarte, the woman who owns Duarte Design, the firm that created the presentation for Al Gore’s Oscar-winning film, An Inconvenient Truth, this book is full of practical approaches to visual story development that can be applied by anyone. The book combines conceptual thinking and inspirational design, with insightful case studies from the world’s leading brands.

On their company blog they had a really cool video. I’m going to try to incorporate the 5 rules from the video in our presentation… Enjoy.

Rosary Giveaway [updated]

While visiting the Atlanta Eucharistic Congress three years ago I came across an amazing Catholic organization named Rosary Army. Their goal; to evangelize the faith through promotion of the Rosary prayer. Their motto; Make them. Pray them. Give them away.

During the Eucharistic congress I was walking through the room where all the merchants were set up when a woman came up to me. She said, “Want to learn how to make a rosary?” I was instantly intrigued, because a friend of mine had been making rosaries for the past few months.

I was pretty terrible at it, but now I’ve sorta got it down. Rosary Army has this awesome video on how to make them. It’s pretty simple, they’ll even send you twine and other materials to make them.

So I encourage you to check them out and if you want to get a free rosary from them, they’ll ship you one!

Post Update:

Here’s a video that Greg put together for Lent 2010.
